Eco church at LMC
Caring for Creation together
As a church community, we believe that caring for God’s creation is a vital part of our Christian witness. Our Eco Church journey has grown into a shared commitment to live more sustainably, deepen our understanding of environmental justice, and take practical steps that honour the world God has entrusted to us.
Environmental policy
As part of our commitment as a church, we seek to encourage involvement across our own church building and congregation, and also within our homes and across the local community.

Our Eco Church Silver Award
We’re delighted to have achieved the A Rocha UK Eco Church Silver Award, recognising the progress we’ve made across worship, buildings, land, lifestyle, and community engagement. This award reflects the dedication of our congregation, volunteers, and wider community partners who have joined us in this mission.
To achieve a silver Eco award, you must demonstrate:
-
Progressive action by showing that environmental concerns are embedded in worship, teaching and daily operations
-
Complete a survey to access the award
-
Implement actions across the five areas of the survey: worship, building, land, community and lifestyle
-
Evidence collection – gather evidence of our actions such as photos, policies, and reports to support the action

Annual eco service
Every year we hold an Eco service where we bring attention to eco matters. This gives us a great opportunity to bring conversation and thought-provoking challenges to our congregation. In addition to this, we host a session of engagement for LMC kids, where we have identified wildlife in our gardens, decorated bird houses, built bug hotels and visited the bees.

Our net zero plan
We have developed a Climate Resilience and Net Zero Plan to consider climate-related risks and the steps we aim to take to adapt to these and move the Church to Net Zero. This plan is a working document considered by Church groups responsible for the strategic development of our buildings and services.
our church bee hives
The hives are located on site at LMC and Alec and Paul kindly care for and maintain them. The bees are an excellent addition to help support local biodiversity. In addition, it supports opportunities for learning, volunteering, and enjoying the honey harvest. Products are sold at our Café in the Welcome Area and at our Christmas Bazaar.

how you can get involved
We encourage our congregation and wider community to follow our eco tips and support the church’s environmental mission:

If you are interested to learn more or get involved, please speak to Steve Perry or the church office.
looking ahead
We are currently working towards our goals for achieving the Gold Award. This award is an in-depth assessment of our commitment to moving beyond good intentions by providing visible evidence of our practices in sustained action in worship, community engagement, and a contribution towards a national effort to address climate change.
Keep your eyes peeled for our next event. Whatever it is we will always be thinking about:
-
What’s driving climate change and how can we reduce it?
-
How is it impacting on our everyday lives?
-
How can we respond?
-
support biodiversity
-
reduce pollution
-
We invite you to join us on our journey with the church in caring for creation.
