Loughton Voluntary Care
We are a registered charity, run entirely by volunteers and provide essential practical help to many Loughton residents who have no-one else to turn to. We serve our local community by supporting independence among elderly, frail residents and helping them to stay in their own homes.
We have been in operation since 1969, are sponsored by churches together in Loughton, receive financial support from Epping Forest District Council and have office accommodation provided by Loughton Methodist church.
We support our clients by driving them to medical appointments and offering an arm if needed. We wait for them in the hospital and then drive them home. Most trips are to local hospitals, doctors' surgeries, optician's practices and Rectory Lane Clinic, but we have some intrepid volunteers who brave the congestion zone to get clients to some London hospitals. Our clients are those for whom travel by public transport is an ordeal or impossible.
We shop, including collecting prescriptions, for the housebound and also offer befriending support.
We provide a regular supermarket trip for clients with mobility difficulties, enabling them to choose their own shopping. Volunteers are available to push a wheelchair or to help, for instance, with getting items off high shelves. After shopping, there is a stop at the supermarket cafe for a tea or coffee, a toasted teacake or even a full English breakfast!!
It's easy to volunteer. You can do as little or as much as you want and all expenses are met.
If you would like to know more about the services we offer or would be interested in volunteering to drive, shop, escort or answer the telephone, please call us on 020 8508 6114.
